We’re looking for some animatronic engineers! Get ready to design your creature to move, groove and do what you tell it to do. You will be making a kinetic critter from your imagination that is controlled by a few simple electronic devices. From start to finish, you’ll have fun creating this moveable robot that can take center stage and steal the show!

During the one-week program, you will learn to use microcontrollers and servos to bring life and motion to your creature. Explore mechanical motion over several lessons using an Arduino and servo controller board. Arduino is easy to learn and opens up a fun world to creature creators, like you!

What Can Parents Expect

  • Classes will run online Monday – Friday from 10AM-12PM and 1PM-3PM EDT
  • Students will need a laptop, access to Zoom, and will receive a materials kit prior to the start of class
  • Animatronic Kits can be picked up at our Somerville facility or mailed.

 

What Students Will Learn

  • Programming: Arduino basics through Arduino Sketch
  • Robotics & Engineering: Mechanical and electronic assembly; programming servo motors using circuit boards
  • Hands-On Building: Designing a kinetic creature using simple electronic devices and found materials around the home
  • Critical-thinking, problem-solving, team-work, effective communication in a digital environment
