A play that addresses topics both timeless and timely, "The Cry of the Reed" by Sinan Unel revolves around a journalist, covering unrest in the Middle East, who is detained by a group of insurgents. When they offer her the opportunity to make a phone call, she chooses to call her mother, from whom she has been estranged for over 10 years.
