Community Schools Afterschool Programs Lottery

DHSP Community Schools Programs provide educational, cultural, social and recreational opportunities for Cambridge children in Junior Kindergarten through 5th grade.

This program runs during the school year.
Monday through Friday.

Ages: 3 to 11.

Grades Junior Kindergarten through 5th grade.

The link to the application will is available at www.cambridgema.gov/AfterschoolLottery (This application applies to DHSP Childcare Afterschool, Community Schools, and CYP Youth Center Pre-Teen/Middle School programs).

In-person help with filling out the application is available

  • We will be offering application support at 51 Inman, Frisoli Youth Center, and Gately Youth Center during the application period. Please visit www.cambridgema.gov/AfterschoolLottery for details

Families who are currently enrolled have the option of re-enrolling in the same site for the 2023-2024 school year

  • If families are interested in this option, they still need to fill out an application. Families will use the same application to apply for each of their children. 
  • If families would like to apply to a different site or program, they need to fill out an application. Their child(ren) will be entered in the lottery and will not have a placement preference

All decisions will be shared during the week of June 19th when you will be notified whether your child has a seat in an afterschool program or has been placed in the waiting pool.

Additional information

Community Schools programs are offered Monday-Friday during afterschool hours, school vacation weeks, and early release days. Children enjoy activities that enhance their learning, creative expression, and health while fostering a sense of community and social connections. Community Schools programs operate in every public elementary school.

Eligibility

  • Applicants must be Cambridge residents or children of City of Cambridge employees.
  • Children must be entering Junior Kindergarten through 5th grade in September 2022.

Cost

  • Program cost is based on family income.

Timeline

  • Monday, May 16 – Friday, June 3, 2022: Community Schools Afterschool Programs Lottery application period.
    • Applications will be completed online through the City’s Viewpoint platform.  
    • Families who need help with their application can contact askdhsp@cambridgema.gov or 617-349-6200.
  • Week of June 27, 2022: Families will be notified of their child’s placement in a Community Schools Afterschool program or in the waiting pool
    • Notifications will be sent through email and the Viewpoint platform. Families can log into their Viewpoint account to check the status of their application at any time.
