We provide a year-round, in-person leadership program at the Hurley Street Farm. Youth will learning leadership skills through urban gardening and environmental activism.

This program runs during the school year.
Tuesday.

We meet on Tuesdays from 3:30 - 5:00 PM. This school year we'll run late September - end of May. Exact start and end dates TBA, see website for most current information as we will update it at the start of the school year.

Ages: 11 to 14.

Grades 6th grade through 8th grade.

Cambridge residents only.
Organization affiliates only.

This program is open to students that are enrolled at CPS or that live in Cambridge. They must meet one of those two conditions.

Registration is ongoing starting September 5th. All interested youth and families should contact the Program Director using the contact info above in order to sign-up. Registration is open until all spots are filled.

Location

The program location changes over time.

  • In-person only.

  • Transportation from school provided for some eligible students; check with your child's school.

Program will run at Hurley Street Neighborhood Farm when the weather is nice and will likely move indoors somewhere during the winter. Parents can arrange for CPS school buses to drop off near the Hurley St Farm on Wednesdays after school (talk to school clerk); no transport home provided.

Additional information

In-person farming and gardening to help build leadership skills, gain STEM knowledge, and take action in our communities. We review and practice themes that include: Environmentalism, Leadership, Identity, Exploration, Science-based Engineering Activities, Gardening, Community field trips, and supporting urban farms.

The Young Leaders Program is for middle schoolers ages 11- 14 (rising 6th graders through 8th grade). In the Young Leaders Program, kids learn about making their community a safer, more sustainable place to live through growing plants and exploring the natural environment in the city. The Young Leaders Program is for middle school youth who live or go to school in Boston or Cambridge. It is tuition-free to families.
