We offer a FREE summer program for students entering 8th grade whose families are Cambridge Housing Authority residents.

The Work Force, Summer Learning Literacy Program
This program runs during the summer.
Monday through Thursday. Morning.

Summer programming runs July 1st - August 8th from 9:00AM - 12:30PM

Ages: 12 and 13.

Grade 7th grade.

Cambridge public/subsidized housing residents only.
Organization affiliates only.

This program is for current 7th graders who will be entering 8th grade after the summer.

Participants must live in Cambridge Housing Authority developments or leased housing with a voucher from Cambridge Housing Authority. If participants or their families are unsure if they qualify, please contact us and we can verify eligibility. If spots remain, general public may apply (there are 20 spaces in total).

Work Force Summer Programming Applications Page.

Current members of Work Force programming are given priority, new applicants will be considered if spots remain. There are a total of 20 spots in the program. Some seats may be available after the registration window but before the program begins. Contact us to inquire about open seats if you wish to apply after May 30th.

Free!

Students are paid a stipend of up to $250 for completing the program (amount is based on their attendance and level of participation).

The Work Force Summer Literacy Program is a free six-week summer program for rising 8th grade (current 7th grade) students who are either currently a 7th grade Work Force participant at CSUS Work Force, and/or whose families live in Cambridge Housing Authority developments and leased housing. The goal of the Summer Learning Literacy Program is to empower students to become active owners of and advocates in their own education. Through youth-initiated research, group projects, peer to peer learning, guest speakers, and field trips, students will learn all about their personal learning styles and preferences, how to effectively engage with their schools and teachers and how to increase their academic success in 8th grade and beyond!
