Co-translators Martha Collins and Nguyen Ba Chung will read and discuss their translations of poems from Dreaming the Mountain (Milkweed, 2023) by Vietnamese Buddhist poet Tuệ Sỹ (1943-2023), who was imprisoned for fourteen years and at one point condemned to death. The reading will trace the poet's journey from his student and professor years in Saigon, through a time of solitude following the end of war in 1975, and into and beyond his years of imprisonment. Collins and Chung will also discuss their translation process, and read poems in both English and Vietnamese.
