Additional information
"Fat Ham," by James Ijames, is a joyful reworking of Shakespeare's "Hamlet." Set at a backyard barbecue, in a suburb somewhere in the American South, "Fat Ham" explores family conflicts, struggles with identity, and challenges of living an authentic life. Polonius's advice to Hamlet: "Above all, to thine own self be true" is rarely more difficult to follow than in the midst of a family gathering. Unlike Shakespeare's play, however, "Fat Ham" celebrates the bonds of family and the power of love to "overcome all obstacles, defy all storms, and deepen its colors with the passage of time."
