Red Line Closures Guide for Cambridge Commuters

    Closures will impact commuting all across Cambridge and Greater Boston.

    Dates and Times

    The MBTA’s Track Improvement Program aims to eliminate all speed restrictions on the Red Line and to bring the tracks to a state of good repair by the end of 2024. Work on the Red Line will result in multiple closures throughout the year. The next closures are scheduled for: 

    • Saturday, June 1, 2024 – Sunday, June 2, 2024
      Alewife to Harvard
    • Friday, June 28, 2024 – Sunday, June 30, 2024
      Alewife to Harvard
    • Saturday, July 13, 2024 – Sunday, July 28, 2024
      Alewife to Kendall/MIT
    • These dates are subject to change.

    Additional information

    Scheduled June 2024 Red Line Closures Impacting Cambridge:  
    Parts of the MBTA Red Line are scheduled to be closed the first and last weekends of June (June 1-2 and June 28-30).  
     
    Riders will take shuttle buses instead of trains on parts of the Red Line on the first and last weekends of June while the MBTA repairs tracks and makes improvements.

    Begin Planning for July 2024 Red Line Closures: 

    The MBTA Red Line is also expected to be closed Saturday, July 13 to Sunday, July 28. Riders will take shuttle buses instead of trains on parts of the Red Line for about two weeks while the MBTA repairs tracks and makes improvements. 

    These dates are subject to change. The City will update http://camb.ma/redlinewith resources and information on upcoming closures in Cambridge.
