We provide afterschool care for children in Cambridge that is designed to build children’s social skills and enhance their school-day learning.

This program runs during the school year.
Monday through Friday. Afternoon.

Programs run September 2023 - June 2024. Programs' start and end times vary. DHSP Childcare Afterschool program sites start at the end of the school day and run until 5:55 PM every weekday unless otherwise notified. School vacation programming is available.

Ages: 4 to 11.

Grades Junior Kindergarten through 5th grade.

Cambridge residents only.
Organization affiliates only.

Eligibility is based on grade level. Participants must be enrolled in Junior Kindergarten - 5th grade during the school year they attend. Families must reside in Cambridge or are the children of City of Cambridge employees.

In-person help with filling out the application is available

  • We will be offering application support at 51 Inman, Frisoli Youth Center, and Gately Youth Center during the application period. Please visit for details

Families who are currently enrolled have the option of re-enrolling in the same site for the 2023-2024 school year

  • If families are interested in this option, they still need to fill out an application. Families will use the same application to apply for each of their children. 
  • If families would like to apply to a different site or program, they need to fill out an application. Their child(ren) will be entered in the lottery and will not have a placement preference

All decisions will be shared during the week of June 19th when you will be notified whether your child has a seat in an afterschool program or has been placed in the waiting pool.


Everyone accepted to the program will receive an affordable cost based on their family's income.

Additional information

DHSP's Childcare Afterschool programs are designed to build children’s social skills and enhance their school-day learning. Children engage in developmentally appropriate project-based learning curriculum, both individually and in groups. All Childcare Afterschool programs are licensed by the Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care. Children are encouraged to learn through exploration. We focus on Project-Based Learning, physical activities, academic support, and helping children to be self-sufficient.

  • For ten months of the year (including early release days), all classrooms provide care from the end of the school-day until 5:55 p.m.
  • Programs are open during school vacation weeks.

Program continues to run during Winter vacation, February vacation, and April vacation.
